John McKeen is a Ph.D. student in Mark E. Davis’s materials lab at Caltech where he studies proton conductivity in organically modified microporous and mesoporous materials for potential application as solid electroytes. In addition, the ion conducting and dielectric properties of zeolites and microporous materials are studied to develop a better understanding of intercage relaxation and long range ionic hopping.
McKeen earned B.S degrees in Chemical Engineering and Electrical Engineering and an M.S. Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Minnesota, and has subsequently earned an M.S Chemical Engineering degree from Caltech, enroute to his Ph.D. Other interests include renewable energy, batteries, semiconductor device physics, and a few more.
In addition to his work at Caltech, McKeen is a private pilot (slowly) working towards his instrument rating and a category 2 competitive road cyclist.
